Immunizations
The following are NEW IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE 2010-2011 SCHOOL YEAR. All children entering kindergarten, all 6th grade students, and all children changing school districts:
-
Two doses of Varicella (Var) vaccine or history of chickenpox disease
All children 11 through 18 years who are changing school districts or who are enrolled in 6th grade:
-
One dose of meningococcal vaccine (MCV4 or MPSV4)
-
One dose of tetanus/diphtheria/acellular pertussis (Tdap) if 5 years have passed since last dose of tetanus/diphtheria vaccine (DTaP, Td, DT)
Those children already enrolled in school should have the updated immunizations but are not required to have them until they reach the 6th grade or attend another school district. This chart from the Michigan Department of Community Health contains additional information about the immunization requirements for all school age children in Michigan.
As your child’s immunizations are received, please bring in a copy of the updated record to his/her school. Feel free to call your child’s school nurse with any questions or concerns.
