At a football practice, sometime before the 1989 season, Dean Altobelli visited and shared a story he learned from Buck Nystrom. The story talks of a wise man that frequented a small park, feeding pigeons bread crumbs from a small paper bag. He was said to be the wisest man of all and able to answer any question. A young boy, in an attempt to fool the man, approached him, holding out his hands as if hiding something. The boy said, "I have a small bird inside my hands. Tell me, is it alive or is it dead?" The wise man rested back against the park bench and said, "It's all in your hands."
As our athletic and activities programs are required to do more with less, we realize that their survival rests not in the laps of those in Lansing, but in the hands of those in our community. In planning for the future, Escanaba High School has entered into an agreement with the Community Foundation of Delta County to establish The Eskymo Endowment for Athletics. The purpose of this fund is to "sustain and augment the athletic programs for the Escanaba Senior High School." Currently we have a scholarship fund well over $4,000,000. Our goals for the Eskymo Endowment are equally ambitious and of paramount importance given the continued declining enrollment our district is experiencing.
A gift to The Eskymo Endowment for Athletics may fall into one of four basic categories:
- Cash Gifts
- Appreciated Property
- Closely Held Stock
- Life Insurance Policies
As you consider future gifts, please consider the The Eskymo Endowment for Athletics. Tax deductible gifts can be sent to:

We know this will take time, but as our scholarship fund has grown, so will this endowment, for our children, for their children, and for all children who deserve the same opportunities tomorrow that we have today.
