Mission Statement

Our purpose is to facilitate learning, encourage student success, and help students develop a sense of self in their young teenage lives. The students are responsible for mastering basic skills, practicing rational thinking skills, and developing self- confidence, all while exhibiting integrity and a positive attitude to becoming productive members of a democratic society.  This educational experience will occur by providing a safe and healthy environment, conducive to promoting maximum learning by the student, with a challenging and well- balanced curriculum, taught by a caring and professional staff committed to excellence.

School Overview

The Escanaba Junior High School has approximately 375 students in grades 7 and 8.  We have one of the most well rounded, Junior High educational programs in the Upper Peninsula with a strong focus on academics, athletics, fine arts, and student activities. All of our teachers are highly qualified under the criteria established by "No Child Left Behind".

We offer all of the core classes as determined by the Michigan Grade Level Expectations and Common Core Standards along with a variety of electives such as Industrial Arts, Technology, Physical Education, and our award winning Band and Orchestra programs.

Our Junior High sports program includes several offerings during the three school sports seasons. We offer football, cheerleading, and girls' basketball in the fall. Our winter season is made up of boys' basketball, competitive cheerleading and volleyball. The spring schedule consists of track for boys and girls.

The fine arts department is outstanding. We offer band, orchestra, and chorus. Many of our students have been invited to perform for all-state competition with several of them earning all-state recognition.

Many of our students participate in one of our numerous clubs. The majority of our clubs include service to our community and all focus on student fun. Our current offering includes SADD, Builders Club, Chess Club, Student Council, Art Club, Drama Club, Jazz Band, National Jr. Honor Society, Snow Club, and Yearbook Club.

It does not matter if you consider yourself an academic, an athlete, a musician, all three or none of the above. The Escanaba Junior High School has something to offer you!
