EAPS Bus Rules

The rules and regulations listed below are the result of careful study based upon the experiences we have had in the operation of our school bus system.  Cooperation and courtesy in following these suggestions will permit us to better serve your child. Please take the time to go over the rules with your children so that they will know what is expected of them when they ride the bus.

  1. Be on time at designated bus stops.  Buses cannot wait for tardy pupils. It is important that drivers maintain an established time schedule.
  2. Parents are also to be informed that they are responsible for:
    1. the safety of their child while going to or  from the bus stop and while waiting for the school bus;
    2. their child being at the bus stop at least five (5) minutes prior to scheduled pick-up time;
    3. damage by their child to school buses, personal property, or public property.
  3. Students are expected to conduct themselves in a proper manner at bus stops. The District will not enter into disputes involving parents and/or students concerning matters that take place prior to the student boarding the school bus, or after the student has disembarked from the bus on his/her way home.
  4. Expect to walk some distance to a bus stop as required by state regulation.
  5. Wait for the bus on the shoulder of the road.  Form a line to get on the bus.
  6. Cross at least 10 feet in front of the bus when crossing the road or highway.  Do not cross in back of the bus.
  7. Remain seated at all times.  Wait until the bus has come to a complete stop before attempting to enter or leave the bus.
  8. Do not leave the buses without the driver’s consent, except at home or at school.  No unauthorized stops will be made.
  9. Students are not allowed to use any wireless communication devices without the drivers permission.
  10. Obey the driver’s suggestions.  Help the driver to assure safety at all times.
  11. Occupy any seat assigned by the driver.  Sit erect with your feet on the floor. Keep your head, arms and hands inside the bus.
  12. If there are seat belts on the bus, it is mandatory that every student buckle up.
  13. The owner must hold musical instruments, books, etc. Do not leave them in the aisles or at the front or rear emergency door.
  14. Observe classroom conduct.  Avoid unnecessary noise. The driver cannot be distracted while the bus is in motion.  Do not shout at passing persons or vehicles.
  15. Be courteous.  The use of vulgar or profane language, fighting, pushing and shoving will not be tolerated.
  16. Help to keep your bus clean.  No eating on the bus without the driver’s permission.  No smoking on the bus! Report any damage you observe to the driver.  Damage to the interior or the exterior of the bus will result in payment for the damages and in suspended bus riding privileges.
  17. The following cargo is forbidden to be transported on a school bus: pets, alcoholic beverages, drugs, flammables, ammunition, explosives, firearms, knives, or any other dangerous materials or objects.  If there is a question on the transportation of a particular item, the Director of Transportation should be consulted.
  18. Students will ride only the bus to which they have been assigned.  “Guests” will be allowed only with the driver’s approval. A signed note by parent/guardian stating the guest rider’s name and giving permission must be provided.
  19. It is important to remember that school bus transportation is a privilege, not a right.

Questions or concerns relating to these rules can be addressed by contacting the Transportation Coordinator during normal business hours at 786-4661.
