Spotlights (PESPA - Patrons of the Escanaba Schools Performing Arts) was founded in the early 1990s as a way to provide financial assistance in the purchasing of new choir robes for the high school. In the following years we have expanded our support to include scholarships for students to attend music camps and private lessons, brought in visiting artists, and assisted with expenses for students to participate in festivals and other events requiring travel. We provide scholarships each year for two graduating seniors, who are chosen by the teachers in the performing arts department. We have provided assistance in the purchasing of new marching band uniforms, and supplemented the purchase of new percussion equipment for the band program.
We host two concerts each spring - Chamber & Chocolate and Songs & Sweets - which allow students to perform their selected pieces of music before the State Solo & Ensemble events. These have grown to be very popular throughout the community. We collect donations at each orchestra and choral concert throughout the year.
We have some brand new board members in the 2019-20 school year who are very passionate about the work of Spotlights as well as all performing arts in our schools. Our current board members include:
Deirdre Kennedy-Peacock, President
Beth Peterson, Vice-President
Karla Shann, Treasurer
Laura Kluka, Secretary
We are always looking for people to join us and become involved! If you are interested in becoming an active part of Spotlights, please fill out our Membership Letter, or send an email to Laura Kluka ([email protected]) and she will add you to the meeting notification list. If you wish to make a donation, Spotlights is a non-profit organization and your financial gift may be tax deductible. Our mailing address is:
